The Psychology Department is excited to announce our Adjunct Faculty Development Award. This fund will award up to $375 to one WFU Psychology Department adjunct faculty member who wishes to enhance their teaching skills by attending the Psychology One Conference at Duke University (http://www.psychoneconference.org/). Psychology One will be held on June 22nd-23rd 2023.

The Psychology One Conference was founded in 2012 to provide a space to reflect on the teaching of psychology to undergraduates. This two-day conference consists of plenary talks, small group discussions, demonstrations, and workshops that will provide ideas, specific techniques and pedagogical goals to enhance the teaching of introductory psychology (and can be broadly applied to any psychology course). Registration is $165 ($135 for members of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology – join at https://teachpsych.org/join/) and includes breakfast, lunch and other refreshments on site at the Penn Pavilion. Lodging is at the Washington Duke Inn ($209/night), just a short walk to the Penn Pavilion.  The deadline to register is May 26th, 2023.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Demonstrate the desire and intentions to enhance your teaching skills
  • Taught a course in the Psychology Department in either the current semester or the previous semester
  • Have a desire to continue to teach in the Psychology Department

To apply, submit your proposal to the Teaching Mentoring Committee Chair, Eric Stone (estone@wfu.edu), no later than April 21st 2023. In your proposal (~250 words), please describe your goals for your own teaching development, and how attending this conference will improve student learning. The awardee will be randomly chosen from all qualified applicants by the Teaching Mentoring Committee (currently comprised of Melissa Maffeo, Heath Greene, and Eric Stone). Please note that applicants who have won within the last three years will not be eligible if there is an applicant who has not yet won this award. The awardee may choose to use these funds towards a teaching-focused conference other than Psychology One, if desired.

The award recipient will be notified as soon as possible after receipt of applications.
